About
IndiaSpend is an award-winning public-interest journalism initiative that uses data and evidence to tell stories, backed by extensive fieldwork across the country. We focus on areas that are crucial to overall development and progress, and contribute extensively to both the understanding and shaping of policy.
We believe data is crucial for public discourse on important policy issues, and our stories strive to foster data-led discussion and analysis at a time when citizens are becoming an active part of the governance process. A related objective is also to make the use of data exciting and a first recourse for young India, rather than opinion, by reaching you through the social media and in innovative formats.
Our work is frequently cited by leading universities the world over and republished by Indian media. Our total number of citations in leading universities has crossed 1,200.
How you can help
Every month, we release at least 15 special research reports supported by extensive boots-on-the-ground reporting on foundational issues such as health, education, environment and gender.
These reports take anywhere from a week to several months to produce and combine on-ground reporting and data crunching.
We do not believe in paywalls, and we rely on donors like you to keep us independent. Help us keep our focus on India’s interests and our stories free.
